Introduction

The high performance of a FARO laser scanner can be used with minimal training to capture 3-D point cloud data. Whether documenting a 50,000 square foot building or accurately capturing the scene of a crime, the possible applications are almost unlimited.

The FARO laser scanners produce three dimensional color images where every pixel has an X, Y, Z coordinate. Measurements can be made immediately after scanning and 3-D objects can be generated to create dimensionally accurate CAD models.

Laser Scanner Photon 120/20

Maximise speed and range

The new FARO® Laser Scanner Photon 120/20 combined with the new FARO Scene 4.6 software offers you the fastest and longest range phase shift laser scanning solution in the market place.

A high-speed 3D scanner for full-detail survey and documentation! Utilizing non-contact laser technology, the FARO Photon generates highly detailed three-dimensional replicas of complex environments and geometries in a matter of minutes. Photon recreates the real world and defines it within a virtual space. The resulting image is a collection of millions of 3D measurements, providing an accurate digital representation of as-built or as-is conditions. Capable of scanning at the blistering rate of 976,000 points-per-second, the Photon 120 offers the most efficient method for documenting your world in three dimensions. Due to the Hypermodulation technology - developed by FARO - the strength of the signal could be improved and the range could be increased to reach 120m.

  • Longest Range 3D Phase-Shift Laser Scanner
Patented Hypermodulation technology enables scanner to produce virtual images comprised of millions of 3D measurement
points collected within an unprecedented range of 120m (395ft.)

LS 880 / LS 840

Faro's longest range phase shift laser scanner

The FARO Laser Scanner LS Designed with user friendliness in mind. The high performance of the scanner can be used with minimal training to capture 3-D point cloud data.

Whether documenting a 50,000 square foot building or accurately capturing the scene of a crime, the possible applications are almost unlimited.

The FARO Laser Scanner LS produces three dimensional black and white images where every pixel has an X,Y,Z coordinate. For enhanced realism, color, through an upgrade option, can be added to the pixels. Measurements can be made directly in the point cloud and 3-D objects can be generated. These can be used to create dimensionally accurate CAD models.

  • High Speed
In less than one minute, the FARO Laser Scanner LS can take an 8 Mega pixel scan of the surrounding area. This is over 100 times faster than conventional scanners - reducing the time needed for capturing data on-site and increasing the efficiency and profitability of the data capture.

  • Modularity
The FARO Laser Scanner LS is constructed of exchangeable modules: the distance sensor, mirror module and PC module. This makes the unit easy to maintain and allows you to purchase additional modules in order to realize the benefits of future developments, such as a long range module or a high accuracy module.

  • Proven Technology
Many years of experience in the practical application of the technology can be seen in the design. The scanner is compact with sealed units, push button operational, and can be geo-referenced making it suitable for daily operation in difficult environments.

Applications:
- Architecture, tunnelling & mining, heritage, forensics, design, inspection, process plants
- Large scale objects such as buildings or production complexes.

New Colour Extension of the Faro LS Series

The FARO Laser Scanner LS creates 3-D scans which consist of 3-D pixels but with spatial coordinates. They also have an intensity value that results in a black and white picture. Until now it has been difficult and time consuming to add high quality color information to a 3-D laser scan.

The new Color Extension of the FARO LS Series enables quick color scanning with high quality and with a minimum amount of effort. FARO now delivers a high quality, high speed, economical color solution, which has a huge market potential.

  • High speed capture of 50 mio colour pixel in only 2.5 minutes
  • Minimal Parallax error
  • Automatic white balance
  • Automatic colour capture
  • Automatic overlay of 3D pixels
  • Easy colour handling
  • Low cost but high quality through Nikon D200 camera

New Super Mobile Laser Scanner Kit

Laser Scanning in 98% of the cases requires the scanner to move. The easier it is to hike through forests, climb stairs, lift the system up or down, carry on rough terrain (in applications such as Civil Engineering, Tunnels and Mines or Archaeological Excavations) or the quicker the user can perform the scans (in applications such as Real Estate and Forensic Scenes) the more productive the scanning project becomes.

The inventors of the FARO Laser Scanner LS have many years of practical experience in laser scanning and have pioneered the compact and robust Laser Scanner. This achievement is now expanded by important product accessories that combine to form the “Super Mobile Laser Scanner Kit”.

  • The carbon fiber tripod gives a super sturdy setup of the Laser Scanner from 69 cm to 180 cm at merely 4.5 kg weight.
  • The new WiFi / WLAN Scanner Connection now offers complete control of the scanning operation via devices running an Internet Browser (Opera preferred) – may it be a PDA, Mobile Phone or Laptop.
  • The scanner now contains a webserver, which gives control to as many required users (one at a time) without additional license fees.
  • The Laser Scanner Backpack enables the user to carry the Laser Scanner and the carbon fiber tripod long distances with minimal load and easy handling.
  • The kit will soon be complemented with a smaller, lighter battery that may be attached to the Scanner Tribrach and runs the scanner for 4 – 6 hrs.

Dr. Bernd-Dietmar Becker, Director for Marketing & Product Management for Laser Scanning at FARO, comments, “With the Super Mobile Laser Scanner Kit (SMLS), FARO delivers a major jump to the market for ease of use, mobility and professional handling. The WiFi/WLAN and the attachable small battery will make the scanner virtually cable free. This means no more cables on the floor to destroy traces in Forensic or Archaeological Scenes, no cables to trip over, and no cables to pull scanners over or fiddle around with in factories or power plants.”

To operate the Scanner via small devices such as a PDA or Mobile Phone or Sub-Notebooks will maximize mobility and performance as normal laptops are clumsy, have a higher risk for contamination and often lack long enough battery life. The carbon fiber tripod is a great success with first test users. The ease of handling as well as the sturdiness is amazing. It is telescopic and can be shrunken to only 69cm size as well as extended to 170cm height. That covers most application needs. The 4.5 kg weight makes it really lightweight. The central column extends the height by 200mm and exactly matches the new color option for the Scanner. Therefore color capture is massively simplified. FARO recommends this tripod for color scanning.

With this accessory kit FARO extends its solution range for Laser Scanning with very practical elements and again proves to be one of the leaders of innovation in Laser Scanning.
